The car battery, which produces a voltage to the electrical components of the vehicle, is basically a lead-acid electrochemical storage compartment that acts as an electrical reservoir. Proper care (topping off electrolyte levels with distilled water, making sure terminals aren’t corroded, can extend battery life to as much as five years and prevent a premature car battery replacement. Beware though, harsh climates can cut that figure in half.

Due to the many different makes and models of cars available today, when a car battery replacement is necessary, be careful to purchase the correct battery for your vehicle.
Be careful if you’re planning to handle a car battery. Precautionary measures are important as the electrolyte (water) inside the battery is a mixture of sulfuric acid and water. Sulfuric acid is very corrosive and harmful if it contacts skin or clothing. Batteries also emit hydrogen gas which is very flammable so it is extremely important to keep away from flames and sparks. If you are concerned at all about handling your battery, leave it to the pros.
Remember: A maintenance-free car battery requires periodic inspection and cleaning to ensure proper performance. Use your good common sense. Give your car battery a little TLC and it will serve for many years to come!
