Five Tips from an Auto Shop for Safe Driving!
Spring has arrived and summer is approaching fast! After winter’s freezing temperatures, make sure your vehicle is ready for the hot temperatures of summer. Whether you’re planning a summer road trip, or just want a reliable vehicle for a short commute to work, now is the time to call a full-service auto center for an inspection of your vehicle. Your auto shop mechanic will look for any hidden problems and make sure that your vehicle is ready for the road.
These five tips from an auto shop will help ensure you are driving as safe as possible:
- Keep up with the recommended vehicle maintenance schedule: Check the condition of the fluids (oil, brake, transmission, steering, etc.), brakes, battery and alternator, lights (interior and exterior), and wiper blades. Replace any worn-out parts or add fresh fluid as needed.
- Check the condition of the tires: Inspect your tires for signs of excessive tread wear and make sure each tire has the right air pressure. Have your tires rotated about every 5,000 to 6,000 miles, especially if you will be going on a road trip adding a lot of miles? Don’t put off buying new tires if your old ones have become too worn.
- Clean out your car for a more comfortable ride: All-weather floor mats will keep your carpet clean. Also, clean windows and lights will make sure you can see and be seen clearly. To increase fuel economy, lighten the weight by removing any unnecessary items from the trunk and backseat.
- Remember an emergency kit: It’s important to keep a roadside emergency kit in the trunk, including blankets, snacks, water, a jack and spare tire, jumper cables, flares, and your cell phone charger.
- Inspect the radiator and hoses: Make sure the ratio of coolant and water is adequate for hot temperatures, and that the hoses have no cracks or bulges.
Even with all your preparations, something unexpected could occur. But, knowing that your auto shop has taken care of your car will give you peace of mind as you head down the road.
